The flute is in the woodwind group of musical instruments, but unlike woodwind instruments with reeds the flute is an aerophone or reedless wind instrument that produces sound using the flow of air across an opening. A musician who plays the flute can be referred to as the following; flute player, flautist, flutist, fluter, or flutenist.
The oldest flute ever discovered may have been a fragment of a small cave bear with two to four holes. This flute was dated back to 43,000 years ago. The discovery was also confirmed to be the oldest musical instrument in history. Today we have a wide variety of flutes from Piccolos, Pan flute, Traditional Flutes and more.
